Psychology Department head Stephen Klein was recently named to a three-year term on a national psychological council.
Klein joined the executive council of the Council of Applied Master's Programs in Psychology, headquartered at the University of South Florida's Pensacola campus.
The organization is composed of universities with master's degree programs--but no doctoral programs--in psychology.
"We will be developing standards for a master's program and will be starting to accredit them," Klein said.
He added that some states are already making psychologist with master's degrees be licensed and those must come from an accredited program. Klein said Mississippi State's master's program, which emphasizes clinical psychology, will most likely be accredited in the next year or two.
