Arts/Humanities/International

Program: Fellowship and Grants Program
Agency: Hoover Presidential Library Association
Next Deadline: MAR 01, 1996
Fellowships of up to $10,000 support postdoctoral research utilizing Herbert Hoover Presidential Library resources. Grants of up to $1,000 are awarded for travel costs and per diem expenses for pre- and postdoctoral research. The program promotes the study of Herbert Hoover's private and public careers, national public policy issues of 1921-1933, and topics that are supported by related Library holdings including the contributions of Lou Henry Hoover.

Program: Summer Seminars for College Teachers: Participants
Agency: National Endowment for the Humanities
Next Deadline: MAR 01, 1996
Supports seminars for teachers at undergraduate colleges who wish to broaden their knowledge of the subject they teach. Applicants should request details on seminars directly from seminar directors. A list of the seminars to be offered is available from NEH. Teachers selected to participate receive $3,750 stipend for eight-week programs, $3,450 for seven-week programs, or $2,750 for six-week programs. The application deadline is for seminars beginning in summer 1996.

Program: American Society for 18th Century Studies Fellowships
Agency: Newberry Library
Next Deadline: MAR 01, 1996
Fellowships are available for one to three months in residence at the Newberry Library for studies on American society from 1660-1815. Stipends are $800 per month.

Health/Mental Health

Program: Postdoctoral Fellowships in Cancer Research
Agency: Cancer Research Fund of the Damon Runyon-Walter Winchell Foundation
Next Deadline: MAR 15, 1996
Postdoctoral Fellowships support three years of basic research in theoretical and experimental areas relevant to cancer. Level I ($25,000 stipend) supports candidates who have completed the MD, Ph.D., DDS or DVM within one year of application. Level II ($45,000 stipend) supports physician scientists who have completed residency or clinical fellowship training within three years of application. Applicants must be sponsored by senior scientists. Emphases include: disease mechanisms, causes, prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and the natural history of cancer.

Program: Fellowships and Education and Screening Project Grants
Agency: Komen (Susan G.) Breast Cancer Foundation
Next Deadline: MAR 15, 1996
Postdoctoral fellowships of $35,000 per year support breast cancer research for three years. Grants support both education projects designed to inform the public about breast self-examination, and mammographic screening projects, including early screening and outreach in the community with a focus on the underserved.

Program: Basil O'Connor Starter Scholar Research
Agency: March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation
Next Deadline: MAR 31, 1996
Awards are made to young investigators (M.D.s or Ph.D.s) for independent research on birth defects. Awards provide up to $40,000 per year for up to two years. Approximately 50 grants are made each year. Required abstracts are due by March 31, 1996, with full proposals expected by June 15, 1996.

Science/Engineering

Program: NSFNET Networking Program
Agency: National Science Foundation
Next Deadline: MAR 01, 1996 Target Date - proposals may be submitted at any time.
Encourages and facilitates scientific communication and collaboration by providing widespread access to unique resources through use of wide-area computer networks. Supports expansion of existing networks, assists formation of state and regional networks, and provides institutional access to NSFNET. For initial access to NSFNET, institutions typically receive a two-year grant of up to $25,000. The program may run two competitions in FY 96.
