Arts/Humanities/International

Program: Creation and Presentation
Agency: National Endowment for the Arts
Next Deadline: APR 03, 1996
Supports the creation of new work and the presentation of new and existing works of any culture, period, or discipline. Priority will be given to projects that are of national, regional, or field-wide significance, including unique local projects that are likely to serve as models for a field. Grants range from $5,000 to $200,000 and require a match of at least one to one. Above date reflects postmark deadline. Requested Intent to Apply Card is due February 20, 1996.

Program: Fellowships for College Teachers and Independent Scholars
Agency: National Endowment for the Humanities
Next Deadline: MAY 01, 1996
Fellowships provide up to $30,000 for college teachers to pursue six to 12 months of full-time independent study and research that will enhance their capacities as teachers and scholars. Program is designed for both beginning and experienced teachers whose chief responsibilities lie in teaching undergraduate students at institutions that do not have Ph.D. programs in the humanities. FY 96 program details will be available in early 1996.

Education/Human and Community Development

Program: Grants Program
Agency: American Honda Foundation
Next Deadline: MAY 01, 1996
Awards are made to non-profit organizations, including colleges and universities, for projects that meet the most pressing needs of youth, as related to science education, environmental education and job training. Emphasis is on broad, innovative and forward-thinking projects with national scope that are dedicated to improving the human condition. Grants during the past year ranged from $10,000 to $100,000.

Program: Annenberg Grants: Math and Science Project
Agency: Corporation for Public Broadcasting
Next Deadline: MAY, 1996
Supports projects utilizing telecommunications technologies to help implement math and science reform. For FY 96 the program will probably release only one RFP for an organization that can provide television transmission on a nationwide basis. The exact deadline for submission of proposals is still unknown but will probably be after April 1996.

Health/Mental Health

Program: Injury Prevention and Control: Research Grants
Agency: Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
Next Deadline: MAR 11, 1996
Supports extramural research on unintentional injury prevention, acute care, biomechanics, and prevention of secondary conditions in disabled persons. In FY 96, CDC plans to award: one or two individual RO1-type research grants and up to three program project grants for biomechanics; three RO1-type program project grants for biomechanics; three RO1-type grants for unintentional injury prevention; one RO1-type grant for acute care injury research; and two RO1-type grants for prevention of secondary conditions among persons with injury-related disabling conditions.

Program: Rural Health Research Centers
Agency: Health Resources and Services Administration
Next Deadline: MAY, 1996
Supports the development of centers designed to collect, analyze and disseminate current data on rural health; and conduct research and policy analyses on the delivery, financing, organization and management of health care services in rural areas. Despite the fact that the FY 96 budget is unresolved, HRSA expects to announce the FY 96 competition on a contingency basis in late February with a tentative application deadline in late spring 1996.

Science/Engineering

Program: Visiting Professorships in Microbiology
Agency: Burroughs Wellcome Fund
Next Deadline: MAY 01, 1996
Supports visits by leading researchers in the following fields: microbiology, virology, biotechnology, parasitology, immunology, bacteriology, and molecular biology. Selected U.S. institutions will receive distinguished scientists, who will spend up to five days at the host institution engaged in teaching and discussion with students and faculty. Letters of application go to an alternate address. Please contact the Fund for details.

Program: Faculty Start-Up Grants for Undergraduate Institutions
Agency: Dreyfus (Camille and Henry) Foundation
Next Deadline: MAY 15, 1996
Provides grants of $12,500 to institutions that grant a bachelors or masters degree for chemistry, chemical engineering or biochemistry. Program is designed so that the funds are available in September of the year the new faculty member formally begins the first year appointment. Funds may be used for research or curriculum-related activities. Ten awards will be made annually based on institutional nominations.

Program: Research Grants in Advanced Science
Agency: Eppley Foundation
Next Deadline: MAY 01, 1996
Provides support for research in advanced scientific subjects in the biological and physical sciences. Grants are made to recognized educational and charitable organizations in support of postdoctoral projects. Grants will not support research on cancer, cardiology or AIDS. The Foundation is interested in supporting research for which federal support is not available. Grants of up to $25,000 support one year of research. The Foundation makes about 12 awards each year.
