Program: The Radcliffe Research Support Program
Agency: Radcliffe College
Next Deadline: APR 15, 1996
Offers grants of up to $5,000 to postdoctoral investigators for research utilizing the Center's resources. The Center is a repository of social and behavioral science data for the study of lives over time, with a special focus on American women. Currently, the Center's own research is on "Character and Competence: Exploring Pathways of Development Across the Lifespan." Program provides funds for travel, duplicating, computer time, assistance coding data, and other expenses.
Program: Unsolicited Grants Program
Agency: United States Institute of Peace
Next Deadline: APR 01, 1996
Supports research, materials development, training, and public information activities related to international peace and conflict management. Priorities include: relationship between adherence to human rights standards and international peace; perceptions of peace across political systems; international negotiation; strengthening the non-use-of-force provisions of the United Nations charter; and mediation of political change.
Education/Human and Community Development
Program: Rehabilitation Engineering Centers
Agency: U.S. Department of Education
Next Deadline: MAY, 1996
Centers conduct advanced research of an engineering or technical nature and develop systems for exchange of technical and engineering education and for the distribution of technological devices to the disabled. FY 95 priorities were technology for children with orthopedic disabilities; technology for low vision and blindness; and universal telecommunications access. NIDRR expects to announce the FY 96 competition in March 1996, at the earliest, with an application deadline falling approximately 60 days later.
Program: Early Ed Program for Children with Disabilities: Demonstration Projects
Agency: U.S. Department of Education
Next Deadline: APR 10, 1996
Supports demonstration projects that develop, implement, evaluate, and disseminate new approaches for serving children with disabilities, ages birth through eight. In FY 96, pending finalization of the budget, OSEP expects to award eight grants averaging $137,000. Call 202/205-9807 for application materials. Program: Basic Research Grants
Agency: March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation
Next Deadline: MAR 31, 1996
Supports the prevention of birth defects through studies of basic biological phenomena governing development, genetics, clinical studies, studies of reproductive health, environmental toxicology, and social and behavioral factors. A two-page preproposal must be postmarked by March 31, 1996; invited full proposals are due September 30, 1996.
Program: National Research Service Award - Minority Predoctoral Fellowships
Agency: National Institutes of Health
Next Deadline: MAY 01, 1996
Provides fellowships of up to five years for minority graduate students from all types of institutions for biomedical and behavioral research leading to a Ph.D. or MD/Ph.D. Provides an annual stipend of $10,000 plus tuition, fees and an institutional allowance of $2,000 that may be used for travel to scientific meetings as well as for lab and other expenses. All NIH institutes except NIMH participate. Call 301/435-0714 to request an application package.
Program: Biotechnology Research Training
Agency: National Institutes of Health
Next Deadline: MAY 10, 1996
Supports research training focusing on applications of engineering, physics, chemistry, mathematics, and biology to those areas of biomedical research related to biotechnology. Predoctoral Institutional Training Grants provide stipend of $10,000 per year/$1,500 direct costs; Postdoctoral Fellowships provide annual stipend ranging from $19,600 to $32,300; and Senior Fellowships support more experienced investigators at annual stipend of $32,300 per year/$3,000 for supplies.
Science/Engineering
Program: Planetary Astronomy Program
Agency: National Aeronautics and Space Administration
Next Deadline: MAY 28, 1996
Supports scientific investigations that contribute to understanding the general properties and the evolution of the planets, their satellites, asteroids, comets, and the search for and characterization of other planetary systems. Data obtained are used both for basic research in support of planetary program objectives, and direct support of specific flight missions. Proposals may request the use of NASA's supercomputer capabilities available at Ames Research Center. See the February 28, 1996 Commerce Business Daily for FY 96 information.
Program: Partnerships for Advanced Computational Infrastructure
Agency: National Science Foundation
Next Deadline: APR 01, 1996
Provides access to supercomputing systems and to highly trained staff and researchers to optimize use of the systems. Promotes the development of scalable parallel systems, high performance networking, and high bandwidth and large-capacity mass storage systems to create opportunities for a national infrastructure consisting of a number of sites coupled to high-end computational resources linked via high speed communication networks. This program replaces Supercomputer Centers Program. Cited deadline is for pre-proposals. Proposals are due August 15, 1996.
