Ninth annual Insurance Day scheduled

The ninth annual Mississippi State Insurance Day will officially begin April 24, but participants are invited to come a day early for a little fun and relaxation.

The recreational part of the program is set for April 23 with a golf tournament, followed by a Southern-style barbecue and the Mississippi State-Southern Mississippi baseball game.

The educational phase of Insurance Day starts with 8 a.m. registration on the 24th, followed by a full slate of speakers. Among the speakers are state Insurance Commissioner George Dale, Oklahoma Commissioner John Crawford, Tennessee Commissioner Douglas Sizemore, and Clifford F. Palmer, a Lloyds of London underwriter.

The keynote speaker is Kaj Ahlmann, chairman and president of Employer Reinsurance Corp.

Immediately after lunch, David C. Turner, Independent Insurance Agents of America, and Gary E. Hughes, America Counsel of Life Insurance, will discuss "Banks in Insurance."

The remainder of the afternoon is divided into four sessions: property/casualty, life/health, claim adjusters, and legal.

Topics in the property/casualty session will be "Twenty-four Hour Coverage" and "Employee Practices Coverages"; for life/health, "Life Insurance Sales Tips"and "Health Care Planning-MSA"; claim adjusters, "Fraud Detection" and "Civil Defense for Arson Cases"; and for the legal sessions, "Premises Liability for Criminal Acts of Third Parties" and "Managing Malpractice Exposure for Attorneys."

Six hours of continuing education credit for property/casualty agents, life/health agents, claim adjusters, and attorneys have been approved by the commissioner of insurance and the Commitee for Legal Continuing Education for the educational program.
