Two continuing education telecourses that reflect the growing bond between education and communication technology will be offered statewide this fall by Mississippi State.
From late August to early December, the courses will be provided through electronic media by the Division of Continuing Education and the Technology and Education Department. They include Emerging Technologies (TKT 8703) and Technology Laboratory Management (TKT 4733/67233).
Aug. 28 is the registration deadline.
Larry Anderson, professor of technology and education, will be instructor for both classes. He is founder of the Mississippi State-based National Center for Technology Planning.
"As with others we offer, this telecourse is designed to meet the needs of students who are not able to attend classes on the Starkville campus," said Kathleen C. Olivieri. "The only difference between this and a traditional on-campus course is the manner in which the instruction is delivered."
Olivieri, continuing education's coordinator of distance learning, said the university began offering distance-learning telecourses in 1992.
She said more than 50 locations now can receive these latest two courses through one of three electronic instructional systems: Mississippi Fibernet 2000, the new Star School Interactive Video Network or the Tri-State Network. The broadcast sites, all of which have two-way audio and video connections, stretch from Tishomingo and DeSoto counties in the north to Harrison and Wilkinson counties in the south.
The survey course on emerging technologies will be offered 6-9 p.m. on Mondays. The lab management class will meet 4-5:15 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Registration can be completed in one of five ways: by telephone at 325-2639; fax, 325-8652; mail, in care of Credit Studies Office, P.O. Box 5247, Mississippi State, MS 39762; e-mail, kolivieri@ce.msstate.edu; or in person at 202 Memorial Hall.
