For the first time, the College of Arts and Sciences is sponsoring an "extravaganza" as part of Oct. 25 Homecoming activities.

"Arts and Sciences: Tradition with Vision" is scheduled for 10 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Amphitheater.

Activities include live '60s music from "Rock & Roll Reunion" of Starkville, face painting, balloon animals and Mother Goose stories for the kids, and a special appearance by "Elvis"-state Sen. Tim Johnson of Madison. In addition, 14 departments in the college are providing academic displays.

And, of course, there will be plenty of food on hand, ranging from barbecue to frozen desserts.

"This year is the first time that the College of Arts and Sciences has planned a true Homecoming extravaganza," said Dr. George Buehler, associate dean of arts and sciences. "We hope it will provide a pleasant atmosphere for alumni and friends to chat with former professors, fellow alumni and current students about anything from the good, old times to the most recent changes in the college and on campus."
