Official groundbreaking ceremonies were held recently for the $6 million Livestock Arena and Equine Training Center. The 100-acre site is located south of the main campus. Helping to get things under way are (l-r) Ted Conn of Columbus, contractor; Roger Williams of Starkville, Mississippi Trotter Association; Dr. Rodney Foil, vice president for agriculture, forestry and veterinary medicine; state Rep. Steve Holland of Tupelo; state Sen. Glenn Hamilton of Starkville; President Donald Zacharias; state Rep. Charlie Smith of Eupora; and architect G. Williamson "B.B." Archer of Meridian. The center will train Standardbred horses before they join the harness racing circuit.
