Arts/Humanities/International

Program: Lila Wallace-Readers' Digest Arts Partners Program
Agency: Association of Performing Arts Presenters
Next Deadline: JUL 18, 1997
Supports professional presenter organizations on campus under two types of grants: Planning Grants provide for planning a major audience development/outreach program (July 18, 1997 and February 6, 1998 deadlines); Project Grants fund extended artists' residencies involving community interaction (April 11 and October 1, 1997 deadlines). Deadlines refer to required letter of intent to apply. Applicants will be chosen to send in a formal proposal.

Program: The Norwegian Emigration Fund Scholarships
Agency: Norwegian Information Service of the U.S.
Next Deadline: JUL 01, 1997
Support is provided to U.S. citizens for advanced or specialized graduate studies in Norway on subjects related to emigration history and relations between the U.S. and Norway. Award amounts depend on currency exchange rates.

Education/Human and Community Development

Program: Grants Program
Agency: Timmons (Bess Spiva) Foundation
Next Deadline: JUL 01, 1997
Supports projects in the broad areas of education; health; medical research; the arts; and programs that benefit minority groups, social services, and ecology. Most higher education grants support research projects at up to $10,000.

Program: Training Personnel (IDEA): Preservice Personnel Training
Agency: U.S. Department of Education
Next Deadline: JUN 06, 1997
Supports preservice training of personnel who serve infants, toddlers, children, and youth with disabilities. Projects must address one of the following components: preparation of personnel for careers in special education; preparation of related services personnel; and training early intervention and preschool personnel. See the April 3, 1997 Federal Register for details regarding the FY 97 competition. Applications will be available on April 24, 1997. Fax is preferred (202/205-8717).

Program: Research, Training and Demonstration Projects in Aging
Agency: U.S. Department of Health and Human Services
Next Deadline: MAY 15, 1997
Supports research, training and demonstration projects that examine issues relating to the aged. FY 97 priorities are legal hotlines (May 15, 1997 deadline; see the March 4, 1997 Federal Register) and volunteer senior aides and family friends projects (June 6, 1997 deadline; see the March 21, 1997 Federal Register).

Health/Mental Health

Program: Occupational Safety and Health Small Grants (R03)
Agency: Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
Next Deadline: JUL 01, 1997
Supports pilot studies to design or test new methods, or to analyze previously collected data, in the area of occupational safety and health. Awards go to beginning investigators or graduate students. Priority areas include: irritant dermatitis; asthma; reproductive abnormalities; hearing loss; infectious diseases; low back disorders; and traumatic injuries. Program: Research Awards
Agency: Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America
Next Deadline: JUL 01, 1997
Supports research in the basic biomedical and clinical sciences in the etiology, pathogenesis, therapy, and prevention of Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. Research Grants of up to $160,000 over two years fund preliminary studies by established investigators to allow them to later secure funds from other sources. Career Development Awards provide up to $40,000 over two years for new investigators. Research Fellowships allow for up to $90,000 over three years, plus a $2,000 travel allowance to attend basic science meetings. Fax: 212/779-4098

Science/Engineering

Program: Summer School for Planetary Science
Agency: National Aeronautics and Space Administration
Next Deadline: MAY, 1997
Provides partial support for travel and lodging at NASA's annual summer school for planetary sciences to recent Ph.D.s and Ph.D. candidates in the planetary sciences. The FY 97 summer school will be held August 11-15, 1997 at Cal Tech.

Program: Multi-User Biological Equipment and Instrumentation Resources
Agency: National Science Foundation
Next Deadline: JUL 28, 1997
Provides support for the purchase of major items of instrumentation that will be shared by a number of funded investigators. The program supports the purchase of single items of biological equipment, or the establishment of instrumentation resources consisting of several pieces of equipment with a related purpose. Awards range in size from $20,000 to $400,000. See the National Science Foundation document 96-91 for additional information.
