English professor Peter L. Shillingsburg (left) and W. Glenn Steele Jr., professor and head of the Mechanical Engineering Department, are the newest William L. Giles Distinguished Professors. The highest academic rank bestowed on faculty members is based on research, scholarship, outstanding teaching and service. Of more than 760 faculty members, only 13 others currently hold the honor named for the university's 13th president. The selection of Shillingsburg and Steele was announced at the recent faculty awards banquet.
