Warren F. Housley, professor of counselor education and educational psychology, is one of five distinguished counselors of the American Counseling Association.
Housley was among four counselors and one graduate student who were selected for distinguishing themselves by their commitment to work and to the counseling profession. They were honored during the ACA's World Conference earlier this spring.
Housley has played an active role in the field of professional counseling in Mississippi. He served as head of the Department of Counselor Education at Mississippi State for 10 years and as president of the Mississippi Counseling Association. Housley was one of the first members on the state board of examiners for licensed professional counselors.
"His work has played a major role in the training of counselors who are now practicing in the state of Mississippi," said his nominator, Janie G. Rugg.
In addition, he is a leader in the field of gerontology at both state and national levels.
Founded in 1952, the ACA is the world's largest private, non-profit organization for professional counselors. Headquarters are in Alexandria, Va., and the ACA Internet site is http://www.counseling.org.
