Dr. C. Pat Bagley, head of the North Mississippi Research and Extension Center in Verona, is the new chairman of an international committee.

Bagley will lead the International Grassland Council's International Terminology Committee for the next four years. He was named to the position during a recent IGC conference in Canada.

"I am delighted to have been elected chairman of the committee for the next four years which should culminate in the publishing of an international terminology booklet by the conference in Brazil in 2001," said Bagley.

The IGC plans to develop and publish a text on "Terminology of Grazing Lands and Grazing Animals."

"The uniform, consistent use of terms in forage-livestock agriculture will greatly help in interpreting data and scientific studies from scientists around the world," Bagley added.

The IGC, which meets every four years, attracts between 1,200-1,500 scientists to its conferences. At present, there are 41 scientists representing 23 countries already nominated for the committee and more are expected.
