New faculty, staff orientation set

In a break with tradition, this year's New Faculty and Staff Orientation will combine introductions of key administrators with a presentation on the various university services.

The Aug. 15 McComas Hall program is the first to be jointly hosted by the Office of Academic Affairs and the Department of Human Resources Management.

"President (Donald) Zacharias will welcome new faculty and staff members and other administrators will present an overview of their divisions," said Dr. George Rent, associate vice president for academic affairs.

Following that presentation, according to Renee Adkins, coordinator of human resources' New Employee Services, "representatives of human resources will discuss the university's services and benefits, followed by a question-and-answer session."

Adkins termed the new concept "one-stop shopping."

In addition to the presentations, specific university services will be represented at information booths in the McComas lobby, Adkins said. Among other conveniences, newcomers will have the opportunity to purchase parking decals, obtain university identification cards and enroll in direct paycheck deposit.

All faculty and staff members hired since August 1996 are encouraged to attend any or all of the McComas Hall sessions and visit the display booths. The orientation schedule includes:

Services display booths will be open through the entire program.
