A World Wide Web site devoted to historical topics is earning recognition from two national organizations.
The Historical Text Archive, maintained by history professor Donald J. Mabry, is a new History Channel "Recommended Site." An online version of the cable television network, the site is "dedicated to making the past come alive in an interactive, multimedia environment."
In addition, the archive is one of "701 Special Sites" chosen by ThirdAge, a web community for adults over age 50.
The Historical Text Archive provides information about regions of the world and the United States, topics of historical interest and resources such as databases, directories and maps. One of its primary goals is to provide original historical materials to the Internet community.
The site also has been recognized as a Suite 101 Top 30 Education Site and as a Magellan Three-Star Site, and it has won awards from Afrolinks Week, among others.
Mabry is associate dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, where he also serves as director of the Institute for the Humanities and director of the Biological and Physical Science Research Institute. He holds a doctorate in history from Syracuse University.
