Brown named Fellow of international society


Dr. Lewis Brown, professor, biological sciences, was elected a Fellow of the Society for Industrial Microbiology. SIM is a professional society dedicated to the advancement of the microbiological sciences especially as they apply to industrial products, biotechnology, materials, and processes.

Brown has been a member of the international society for 34 years and has chaired or co-chaired various committees.

During his 36-year tenure at Mississippi State, Brown has served as major professor for 35 masters and doctoral students, and written more than 100 scientific publications.

His research has focused on environmental and petroleum microbiology, including microbial enhanced oil recovery.

Brown is a member of Sigma Xi research honor society and the American Society for Microbiology, and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology.

SIM is headquartered in Fairfax, Va.
