Gootee's image wins international award

Associate art professor Marita Gootee won international recognition among nearly 1,000 entrants in a photo imaging competition.

Gootee participated in the 1998 Photo Imaging Education Association International Student-Teacher Competition. She received a second-place award in the Faculty/Staff category for single images for her photograph entitled "Montage."

Graduate art student Jeff S. Thruston was awarded third place in the College/University category for single images. His work, "Vacancy," is a digital collage image.

Jurors for the competition were Dr. Richard D. Zakia, professor emeritus at Rochester Institute of Technology; Arnold Drapkin, photographic consultant for "Time" magazine; and Jill Enfield, educator and free-lance photographer whose clients include Kodak, Ciba-Geigy, Johnson & Johnson, and DuPont.

All award-winning images were exhibited at the PMA Imaging '98 Convention in New Orleans in mid-February. They also will be part of two exhibitions touring the United States and Australia through 1999.
