Student art show to begin February 26

The 26th Annual Mississippi State Student Fine Art and Graphic Design Competitive Exhibition is scheduled Feb. 26-March 26 in the Department of Art Gallery in McComas Hall.

An opening reception will be held on opening night from 7 until 9 in McComas.

This year's exhibition includes all the traditional media: drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, photography, and graphic design. And, thanks to the department's growing program in digital imagery, several works of electronic visualization are included.

The juror for the fine arts section of the exhibition was Clayton Bass, director of the Walter Anderson Museum of Art in Ocean Springs. The graphic design juror was Bret Terwilleger, principal/chief operating officer and creative director of Oden Marketing and Design in Memphis.

"The objective standpoint of these jurors, art professionals from outside the university community, has resulted in a very high-caliber exhibition of some of the best art work MSU students have to offer," said gallery director Walter Smith.

The reception and awards ceremony, where more than $5,000 in awards and scholarships will be presented, is free and open to the public.

The gallery is open Monday-Friday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. For further information, contact the Department of Art at 325-2947 or 325-6900.
