Guest Artist concert to feature trumpet, piano

A University of Southern Mississippi doctoral student will perform here March 17 in a Guest Artist concert.

Julie A. MacTaggart will play trumpet, accompanied by MSU's Duncan MacMillan on piano. The free concert begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Bettersworth Auditorium of Giles Hall.

MacTaggart has performed in concerts in both Mississippi and Florida. She has accumulated several awards and honors, including the Philadelphia Music Foundation Scholarship and the Theodore Presser Scholarship. She is a member of Pi Kappa Lambda, college music honorary, and the International Trumpet Guild.

She received her bachelor's degree in music from West Chester (Pa.) University, as well as a bachelor of arts degree in sound/audio from Chicago's Columbia College. MacTaggart earned her master's degree in music from Florida State University and is completing a doctorate in trumpet performance and pedagogy at USM.

MacMillan, an associate professor in music education, teaches piano and piano literature. He has performed regionally from Florida to Oklahoma and premiered many works.

He holds undergraduate and master's degrees from Florida State and received his doctorate in piano from the University of Oklahoma.
