"Nocturne," McConnell's composition for solo piano, is one of seven pieces on the latest compact disk released by Julliard-educated pianist Jeffrey Jacob. It is entitled "Contemporary American Electric Music for the Piano, Volume 4."
"This was the first time I've had something I wrote included on a commercial CD," McConnell said. "It's a milestone for me."
"Nocturne" originally was commissioned by fellow music education professor Joel Harrison and is a movement from a larger suite, "Just a Few Trifles, Some Hymns, and a Prayer."
McConnell, an associate professor, teaches music theory and composition. He has had compositions performed in Europe, as well as the United States. Works have been premiered by the Cincinnati May Festival Chorus, the Indianapolis Symphony and Chorus, and the Dayton Bach Festival, among others.
He said any record store should be able to order copies of Jacobs's latest CD (Ariel Records: AE 004), or it may be ordered directly from the company by calling Centur Records Inc. at (504) 336-4877, or New Ariel Recordings, 1-800-336-2224.
