New research v.p. candidates named

Three new candidates for the vice president for research position have been selected and interviews are being scheduled.

The first candidate to visit campus will be Dr. Dennis W. Duke on March 23-25. Duke is director of the Supercomputer Computations Research Institute at Florida State University. All faculty may meet with Duke at a March 24 meeting, 3:30-5 p.m. The location is tentatively set for Mitchell Memorial Library auditorium, but will be announced on the web site.

A second candidate, Dr. Robert W. Whalin, will interview March 30-April 1. He currently serves as director of the U.S. Army Engineers Waterways Experiment Station in Vicksburg. Whalin was a candidate in the original search, but had to drop out for personal reasons. Faculty may meet with him on March 31, 3:30-5 p.m., tentatively scheduled for the library auditorium.

The final candidate is a former dean of engineering at MSU, Dr. Robert A. Altenkirch. He is professor and dean of the College of Engineering and Architecture at Washington State University. Exact dates for his visit have not been finalized, but committee chair Glenn Steele said he hopes a date in early April can be scheduled.

The most current interview schedules, along with resumes and photographs, will be available on the World Wide Web at <http://www.msstate.edu/web/vpr/>.
