Venus to rise March 20

A multimedia performance integrating the history of Venus de Milo and the art of associate professor of art Amie Oliver is scheduled for March 20.

"Venus Rising," a play by Harry Kollatz Jr. of Richmond, Va., will begin at 4 p.m. at the Collonades Amphitheater behind Giles Hall.

The one-hour presentation features Susannah Anderson, also of Richmond, as Venus and includes a monologue, along with recorded voices and music, as well as fragmented images of Venus. The performance will allow the mythological figure to "speak" for herself.

"Venus Rising" is sponsored by the MSU Acdemic Excellence Program, the University Honors Program and the Office of Research.

The presentation also is scheduled for New Orleans' Zeitgeist Alternative Arts Center, 2010 Magazine St., March 17-19.

For more information on the project, contact the Department of Art, or access the web at <www2.msstate.edu/~aoliver/venuscredits.html>.
