Provides support for a variety of projects aimed at archival and records preservation, management, and use. This program supports state and local preservation projects through regrants to states and helps states develop strategic plans. This program also provides matching grants to develop consortia and centers to edit documents, share equipment, and provide staff training. Agency: Hagley Museum and Library

Supports scholarly research that makes use of the library's collections in the areas of American economic and technological heritage, including architectural, consumer culture, and business materials. Awards fund travel and living expenses for research in the imprint, manuscript, pictorial, and artifact collections. Grants provide stipends of up to $1,200 per month. Program: Family Violence Prevention and Services Discretionary Funds

Next Deadline: May 04, 1998
Supports outreach, training, technical assistance, and resource centers for violence prevention and services. In FY 98, states are eligible to apply for grants for services to immigrant and migrant battered women, and for public information community awareness campaign projects for the prevention of family violence. HBCUs, HSIs, and tribal colleges and universities may apply for training grant stipends. See February 25, 1998 Federal Register.
Program: Research, Training and Demonstration Projects in Aging

Supports research, training and demonstration projects that examine issues relating to the aged. FY 98 priorities are National Long-Term Care Ombudsman Resource Center (3/16/98 deadline; see the 1/30/98 Federal Register); Eldercare Locator (4/20/98 deadline; see the 2/13/98 Federal Register); Senior Legal Hotlines (5/11/98; see the 3/5/98 Federal Register). Other priorities which include Family Friends projects, Medicare fraud, and breast care, will be announced through April, 1998.
Program: Community Outreach Partnership Centers Program
Agency: U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development
Next Deadline: Jun 1998 (tentative)
Awards grants to institutions to support centers that conduct research on problems (including housing, health care, crime, education and training, and economic development) in large and small cities and facilitate partnerships and outreach activities between IHEs, local communities and local governments. Grantee must provide 50 percent of the research costs and 25 percent of the outreach costs. See the March 20, 1997 Federal Register for FY 97 details. Refer to http://oup.org. HUD plans to issue a solicitation in late March with a June deadline.
Program: Childhood Agriculture Safety and Health Research

Supports research on risk factors for agricultural injuries associated with child development; social and economic consequences associated with youth workers; and the design and/or evaluation of strategies to prevent childhood agricultural injuries. Funding is available in all basic disciplines, such as physiology, biochemistry, and pathology, as well as for epidemiological and clinical investigations that are related to cardiovascular problems. Program: New Faculty Awards
Agency: Dreyfus (Camille and Henry) Foundation

About ten grants for new faculty members in chemistry are available to U.S. institutions. Funds will be awarded in time for use by the faculty member when he/she formally begins the first year of teaching. Grants are primarily intended as seed money for new ideas and concepts and not as salary support. Funds may also be used for student research stipends, scientific equipment, or other research needs. Faculty must have a Ph.D. in chemistry, biochemistry or related chemical engineering. Grant amount is $25,000.
Program: Small Business Innovation Research Program

Support is provided to science-based and high-tech small businesses to carry out innovative high-risk research on important scientific and technical problems. University scientists are not eligible to apply, but may subcontract with small businesses to provide consulting and other services. Program: Saltonstall-Kennedy Program to Strengthen the US Fishing Industry
Agency: U.S. Department of Commerce
Next Deadline: May 01, 1998
Supports research and development affecting the U.S. fishing industry (recreational or commercial), including harvesting, processing, and associated infrastructures. FY 98 priorities include: rebuilding overused fisheries; minimizing interactions between fisheries and protected or non-targeted species; maintaining healthy fish stocks; promoting aquaculture; and conserving essential fish habitats.
