Traveling exhibit features faculty artists

Two current and one former art faculty members are exhibiting their work at the University Honors House as part of a traveling exhibit.

"Saints Among Us: Christianity and Women in the Arts," an exhibition by Anna Chupa, Anne Hanger and Kristen Woodward, is scheduled for the Honors House through Sept. 18. The show later travels to Clemson University (Oct. 1-15), Emanuel Arts Council Gallery in Swainsboro, Ga., (Nov. 1-27) and Grisham Cornell Gallery in Decatur, Ala., (Dec. 5-Jan. 5, 1999)

The exhibition was made possible by a J.W. Criss Fund Award in support of the study of Christianity at MSU.

Among the works on exhibit are digital prints and watercolor and acrylic collages documenting religious shrines and symbolism.

Chupa and Hanger currently teach art at MSU. Woodward, a former member of the faculty, recently accepted a position at Albright College in Reading, Pa.

All three artists share a common interest in collage. Chupa combines photographically derived images using computer software such as Photoshop to create her surrealistic compositions.

Woodward uses a variety of media including handmade paper and wood to create brilliantly colored and richly textured symbolic juxtapositions.

Hanger makes her small collages by combining bits and pieces of landscape sketches and non-objective work in watercolor and acrylic to form new compositions.

The Honors House is located at 45 Magruder St. and is open Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

In addition to the Honors House exhibition, a web site on the show may be accessed at <www.erc.msstate.edu/~achupa/saints/>.
