A collection of photographs by New York-based artist Kenro Izu will be exhibited through Oct. 3 at the Architecture Gallery in Giles Hall.
Co-sponsored by the Department of Art and the School of Architecture, the show is entitled "Light Over Ancient Angkor." It features a selection of platinum-palladium prints of the ancient religious monuments of Angkor, Cambodia.
The images, captured by a specially designed large format camera, document the co-existence of ancient stone monuments and the nature surrounding them.
The exhibit primarily shows the wealth of architectural and sculptural artistry in the sprawling 12th century temple compound at Angkor Wat, ravaged in recent years by extensive looting.
As he photographed Angkor, primarily in 1996, Izu became involved with its residents and will establish a children's free hospital to care for the constant flow of victims of land mines. Proceeds from the sales of these photographs will go toward establishing Angkor Hospital for Children.
The Architecture Gallery is open Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, 2-5 p.m.
