Supports the costs associated with any type of astronomical research. Astronomers from smaller, less endowed institutions will be given priority. Awards range in size from $300 to $5,000. MIRA is a major four-year initiative (started in 1997) of Kellogg's Food Systems & Rural Development Program area designed to assist rural communities in using information systems & technologies to enhance community development.
