Program: Dwight D. Eisenhower Professional Development Program (EPDP)

The Mississippi Board of Trustees of State Institutions of Higher Learning are requesting proposals for the 1999-2000 Dwight D. Eisenhower Professional Development programs. These programs are designed to improve the skills of teachers and the quality of instruction in the public and private elementary and secondary schools. The Dwight D. Eisenhower Professional Development Program (EPDP) is intended to assist states in meeting the needs of school districts for well-prepared teachers by:
Providing sustained and intensive, high-quality professional development programs in core academic subjects that contribute to the State plan for professional development; providing assistance to school districts, and the teachers and staff of these districts, for sustained, high-quality professional development activities; and promoting further innovation in teacher education programs in universities and colleges, to meet the needs of school districts for well-prepared teachers.

Supports projects to generate in selected youth the skills and motivation necessary for success in education beyond high school. Participant eligibility is limited to low-income or potential first generation college youth or veterans. Projects must provide instruction in math, lab science, English, and foreign language. Allowable activities may also include academic and personal counseling; tutorials and basic skills instruction; cultural enrichment; and exploration of career choices. TITLE: Advanced Tactical Technology

ACTION: Proposers must obtain a Proposer Information Package, which provides further information on areas of interest, the submission, evaluation, and funding processes, proposal abstract formats, proposal formats, and other general information. Proposers must submit proposal abstracts by October 30, 1998. Historically Black Colleges and Universities and Minority institutions are encouraged to submit proposals and join others in submitting proposals.
