United Way campaign exceeds goals

United Way pledges from faculty and staff were up more than 30 percent over last year, helping the 1999 university campaign to exceed its goal by 11 percent.

Commitments from faculty and staff totaled $102,089, exceeding the $88,000 goal by 16 percent. The total university contribution was $103,216 that surpassed a $93,000 goal.

Twelve new members in the Pacesetter category helped increase that group's commitment some 30 percent over the 1998 campaign to $25,630.

"The success of this year's campaign can be attributed to the outstanding work of the 18 division leaders," said university campaign chair Elizabeth Hawkins. "They worked incredibly hard to make this possible."
