Confab to feature technology

The annual "Creating Futures through Technology Conference," Feb. 9 and 10, will feature online and distance learning in Mississippi.

The conference, a joint effort of the state Institutions of Higher Learning and the state Board for Community and Junior Colleges, will be facilitated by MSU's Division of Continuing Education.

Featuring more than 20 presentations on how faculty are using technology in higher education in Mississippi, the event is the only statewide conference focused on technology in higher education.

"Today's classroom is changing, and advanced technology is a big part of the classroom's future," said Dr. Thomas Layzell, state commissioner of higher education.

Last year's conference drew more than 250. "I'm excited about this opportunity for the faculty and staff of Mississippi's community colleges and universities to work together to find out more about what technology means in education today." said Dr. Olon Ray, executive director of the state Board for Community and Junior Colleges.

This year the conference includes a number of presentations on distance-learning projects ongoing in the state, as well as other technology topics such as Internet II; using state of the art technology in classrooms; and MAGNOLIA, the online electronic library.

Events get under way at 1 p.m., Feb. 9, in the Jackson Hilton Hotel on County Line Road. It concludes the next day at 1 p.m. Cost is $55.

To register, or for more information, telephone continuing education at 325-7330.
