One to three month residential fellowships support postdoctoral scholars or Ph.D. candidates to conduct research in the Library's collection. Subject areas include: early American history & culture; American Indian Language; 18th & 19th-century natural history; anthropology; biochemistry, physiology, & biophysics; 20th-century medical research; genetics & eugenics; & modern physics. Program: Dance Travel Assistance Program
Agency: Association of Performing Arts Presenters
Next Deadline: Feb 24, 1999
Supports travel to see performances by dance troupes & supports residencies by dance troupes, with an emphasis on single-choreographer contemporary companies. The program's purpose is to expand presenters' direct knowledge of choreographers & their work, & to assist them in making programming decisions. Funds may also expand touring opportunities for dance companies. Maximum grants are $750, & awards generally will not exceed 75 percent of total travel costs. Program: 21st Century Community Learning Centers Program
Agency: U.S. Department of Education

Provides grants to inner-city & rural public schools & schools districts for the provision of safe & drug-free activities beyond regular school hours. Collaborations with community & educational organizations, including IHEs, are strongly encouraged. In FY 99, there is an absolute priority for activities that offer significant learning opportunities & that contribute to reduced drug use & violence. Program: Model Demon. Prog. for Children w/Disabilities: Deaf-Blindness
Agency: U.S. Department of Education

Supports projects that provide services & technical assistance to infants, toddlers, children, & youth with deaf-blindness. Assists states in providing early intervention, special education, & related services. Also supports agencies that are preparing adolescents who are deaf-blind for adult placement; supported research, development, replication, preservice & in-service training; & parental involvement activities. Program: Fight for Sight Scientific Research Awards
Agency: Prevent Blindness America

Three categories of awards support ophthalmic & vision research: Grants-in-Aid for one-year pilot & feasibility projects; Postdoctoral Fellowships for one year of basic & clinical research; & Student Summer Fellowships for undergraduate, medical & graduate students seeking new eye-related research experience in clinical or basic science areas. Awards are for up to $12,000/year, to $14,000/year & $500/month, or $1,500/total.

Program: Microgravity Fluid Physics: Research and Flight Experiment Opportunities

Program: Equipment/Facilities For Research at Field Stations & Marine Labs

Makes awards to biological field stations & marine laboratories for refurbishment, rehabilitation, enhancement & construction, including new multi-user instrumentation, research laboratory renovation, & improvements to facilitate research by scientists with disabilities. Maximum award is $250,000, with 1:1 match required. Plans for electronic archiving & sharing unique data are required; equipment to accomplish this can be supported by the award.
