Williams, Crowell elected directors of credit union

Two MSU faculty members were elected to three-year terms as directors of the Jackson USDA Federal Credit Union at its February meeting.

Drs. Clyde Williams and Lorenzo Crowell, along with seven other directors, will set the policies and vision for the credit union. All directors serve as volunteer officials, one of the cornerstone principles of the credit union movement.

Williams is an associate professor of English and a member of the Holland Faculty Senate. He joined the MSU faculty in 1968.

Crowell is a retired Air Force lieutenant colonel and a graduate of the Air Force Academy. He is an associate professor of history.

Jackson USDA FCU serves MSU faculty, staff and alumni, in addition to other employee groups throughout the state. Chartered in 1949, the credit union was organized by a group of U.S. Department of Agriculture employees to provide a source of low-cost credit and higher returns on savings.

The credit union has evolved into a member-owned financial cooperative with more than $40 million in assets, nearly 13,000 members and a long list of financial products and services.
