The MSU Alumni Association is hosting its 34th Faculty Recognition Program May 6 and all faculty members, along with a guest, are invited to attend.
The 6:30 p.m. event in the Humphrey Coliseum is designed to honor all Mississippi State faculty, in addition to providing special recognition to those who will receive the 1999 faculty awards.
"This is one of the most important programs we sponsor each year," said John Correro, the association's executive director. "It's a time for the alumni of this university to recognize and applaud the accomplishments of all Mississippi State faculty."
The evening kicks off with a buffet-style dinner, followed by a welcome from Destin, Fla., attorney and 1971 accounting graduate Lamar Conerly Jr., the 1999 national president of the Alumni Association.
Following remarks by Euel Coats, chair of the Holland Faculty Senate, and President Malcolm Portera, Provost David Cole will present the new William L. Giles Distinguished Professor awards.
The evening will conclude with the presentation of five Alumni Association Faculty Awards for 1999 in the categories of Lower Level (freshman and sophomore) Teaching, Upper Level (junior and senior) Teaching, Graduate Level Teaching, Research, and Service.
"The theme for this year's program is 'In Your Honor' because the No. 1 purpose behind the alumni association sponsoring this event is so the alumni of Mississippi State can say 'thank you' for a job well done," Correro said.
Faculty members who have not made reservations for the 1999 Faculty Recognition Program have until April 30 to do so by contacting the alumni association at 325-2434.
