Staff Appreciation Day promises mystery guest

Good food and a good mystery-both are in store for participants of this year's Staff Appreciation Day.

The annual event, sponsored by the Professional and Support Staff Advisory Council, is held to honor staff members. The 1999 version is scheduled for May 21, 10 a.m.-3 p.m., on the Drill Field (Perry Cafeteria in case of rain).

A complimentary lunch will be served 11 a.m.-1 p.m. and the Zacharias Distinguished Staff Awards will be presented at 12:30 p.m.

In addition, live entertainment-including a mystery performer at 11 a.m.-will be provided by Kevin McHann, Tim Burcham and Co. and Southbound.

Carnival games are 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and include a 1 p.m. Hula-Hoop contest. New this year is mini-golf, along with old favorites such as the ring, basketball and football tosses. Prizes will be awarded at the conclusion of the competition and no preregistration is required.

This year's menu will feature barbecued chicken, pulled barbecued pork, fried catfish, hushpuppies, baked beans, cole slaw, turnip greens, MSU ice cream, snow cones, soft drinks, and-new this year-a lemonade stand.

Staff members must bring their detachable meal tickets which were printed in the PSSAC mailout. These replace the meal arm bands issued in previous years. The tickets allow workers to know who is eligible for the complimentary lunches.

The popular T-shirts, in sizes M, L, XL, XXL and XXXL and featuring the SAD logo, will be sold for $7. To order a shirt, call (all prefixes are 325): Emma Armstrong, 3228; Sheila Coleman, 2559; Kathy Collins, 1880; Vanessa Cunningham, 3228; Sid Fondren, 3745; Janice Green, 7393; Julie Joiner, 5933; Patricia McCluskey, 3620; Ruth Nicks, 2251; Tara Puckett, 7910; Jackie Tehan, 3611; Shawna Whaley, 2946; Nedra Williams, 9626; or Regina Young, 2719.

Staff members should have already received a door prize entry form in the mail. After completing and mailing it in, they will be eligible for the giveaways. Participants do not have to be present to win.

Staffers are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or picnic blankets. Parking may be found behind McCarthy Gym.
