Online videos, chat rooms, screensavers, and electronic postcards are helping earn a Mississippi State web site national recognition.
The "Alumni and Friends" site at <msuinfo.ur.msstate.edu/friends/> is among fewer than 20 recognized with four stars in 1999 by Brian Dowling's Advancement Resources, a web site that ranks university alumni and development Internet presentations.
This marks the third consecutive year Mississippi State has received the top rating based on its site's outreach, interactivity, content, navigation, and design.
In addition to MSU, other four-star institutions include Duke, Harvard, Clemson, Cornell, Northwestern, Pennsylvania State, Texas A&M, UCLA, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Indiana University, University of Kansas, and St. Olaf College. Some universities earned multiple recognition.
Mississippi State's alumni and development site is designed and maintained by the Office of University Relations.
The Historical Text Archive <www.msstate.edu/Archives/History>, maintained for the last three years by Dr. Don Mabry, associate dean of arts and sciences and professor of history, was mentioned in the April 19th edition of "Time" magazine.
In an article entitled, "For African Americans: Uncovering a Painful Past," the HTA was named as a valuable and respected resource for up-to-date information and discussion for those with African ancestors.
In addition to listing links to other web sites, the HTA actually publishes books and articles-ranging from "The Personal History of Pancho Villa..." to "My Escape from Slavery" to "Neighbors, Mexico and the United States: Wetbacks and Oil."

This World Wide Web version of MSU Memo was marked up by Chris Brown <brownc@ur.msstate.edu>.
