User Services planning June workshops

User Services, a division of Information Technology Services, has opened a new computer training lab to augment and enhance the training workshops User Services has traditionally provided.

The new User Training and Support Lab will allow User Services to provide a greater number of workshops while providing participants access to a computer during the seminar. The workshops will focus on a wide variety of computer topics and will feature friendly, intensive and comprehensive instruction at no charge to MSU users.

The new lab, located in the basement of McArthur Hall, is comprised of 25 student stations and one teaching station. Each are equipped with the new Howard PC. These Mississippi-made computers have a Pentium II processor with features that include 128 MB of memory, a 19" monitor, and a Zip drive. The lab also has scanners, printers, an electronic white board, and a projection unit for the teaching station.

Each month User Services will be offering a different selection of classes. The classes offered can be viewed online at <www.its.msstate.edu/us/training>.

Registration for classes is required and can be done online at <www.its.msstate.edu/us/training/reg.html> or by telephone at 325-0631.

User Services personnel will teach the workshops. Additionally, User Services will accept requests from departments and campus offices for special training sessions.

The following classes will be held in June: Introduction to Windows, June 7, 8 a.m.-noon; Adobe Acrobat 4.0, June 8, 1-5 p.m.; Microsoft FrontPage 98, June 9, 1-5 p.m. or June 10, 8 a.m.-noon; Introduction to Microsoft Word 97, June 14, 8 a.m.-noon or June 15, 1-5 p.m.; Introduction to Photoshop 5 for the Web, June 16, 1-5 p.m. or June 17, 8 a.m.-noon; Introduction to Microsoft Excel 97, June 21, 8 a.m.-noon June 22, 1 -5 p.m.; Introduction to Microsoft Access 97, June 23, 1-5 p.m. or June 24, 8 a.m.-noon; GroupWise 5.5, prerequisite: a GroupWise account, June 28, 8 a.m.-noon or June 29, 1-5 p.m.; Introduction to Microsoft PowerPoint 97, June 30, 1-5 p.m. or July 1, 8 a.m.-noon.
