

Writer and MSU alumnus Jack Kean of Starkville will present his papers to the university in an Oct. 26 public ceremony.
The presentation begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Mitchell Memorial Library auditorium, followed by a seminar conducted by the author and freelance journalist: "Writing Your First Novel." A reception and book signing will follow in the library's Grisham Room.
Kean has written two novels, "Deadly Sacrifice" and "What If the Winner Dies?" which will be published in May 2000. He is working on his third novel, "One Nation-Divisible."
In addition to his novels, Kean writes humorous and nostalgic pieces, as well as general interest articles. He has been published in "Good Dog," "Back Porch" and "Wry Bred" magazines and in Southern Owned and Southern Operated, a quarterly journal. He also is a regular contributor to the Starkville Daily News.
He earned a bachelor's degree from Mississippi State and a law degree from the University of Mississippi.
In 1974 Kean began a career in law enforcement as a U.S. postal inspector. He joined the U.S. Department of Labor's Office of the Inspector General in 1978.
Beginning in 1984, he served as regional inspector general of the eight-state Atlanta Region for 10 years. In 1994, Kean served as the deputy assistant inspector general, directing nationwide fraud investigations. He retired in 1996.
