Children of university employees must now maintain a 2.5 grade-point average to receive free tuition, the result of a change in policy by the state Board of Trustees, Institutions of Higher Learning.
The IHL policy previously required a 2.0 cumulative grade-point average for a dependent child of a university employee to receive an undergraduate tuition waiver. Children of employees may receive the tuition waiver until they receive a bachelor's degree or reach age 25, whichever comes first.
Another IHL change in tuition remission policies will limit state university employees to six credit hours of tuition-free courses per semester. Mississippi State previously had allowed tuition remission for two courses per semester, which could total up to eight credit hours.
The changes will be in effect for the spring 2000 semester. Mississippi State revised its tuition remission policies last week to conform to the new provisions in the IHL policy.
