Meridian establishes honor society

The Meridian Campus of Mississippi State is establishing a chapter of Chi Sigma Iota, the international counseling academic and professional honor society.

The Phi Upsilon Chapter was approved by international president Dr. Don C. Locke and executive director Dr. Thomas J. Sweeney.

Chi Sigma Iota was established in 1985 as an organization to provide recognition for outstanding achievement, as well as outstanding service within the counseling profession. The society promotes scholarship, research, professionalism, and excellence in counseling, and recognizes high attainment in the pursuit of academic and clinical excellence in the field.

The Phi Upsilon Chapter will serve as a link within the community to promote interaction between counselor educators, students, alumni, and local professionals.

Meridian Campus students may earn master's and specialist's degrees, with an emphasis on community or school counseling, in counselor education.

Dr. George Thomas, professor of counselor education, will serve as chapter adviser.

The MSU-Meridian Campus is among fewer than 200 locations throughout the world to host a chapter of Chi Sigma Iota.
