E. Ann Bailey, Office of Residence Life, received the Leader of the 21st Century Award from the University of Montevallo (Ala.) National Alumni Association.
Jim Barloon, English, MSU-Meridian, published a review of a scholarly work, "Henry James' Legacy: The Afterlife of His Figure and Fiction" by Adeline R. Tintner in the January issue of English Literature in Transition.
M. Alan Blaine, plant and soil sciences, received the Extension Educator Award for 1999 by the United Soybean Board.
Susan Bridges, computer science, had a paper, "Mining Fuzzy Associate Rules and Fuzzy Frequency Episodes for Intrusion Detection," accepted for publication in the International Journal of Intelligent Systems.
Karyn Brown, communication, won American Advertising Awards in the Golden Triangle Advertising Federation competition for her work as executive producer on a series of three spots for the Census 2000 campaign.
Cathy Grace, College of Education, was named the Most Outstanding Member of the Southern Early Childhood Association.
E. William Jones, mechanical engineering, received a Faculty Advisor Award from the Society of Automotive Engineers.
Cameron Man, landscape architecture, received a certificate of distinction from Sigma Lambda Alpha, an international society promoting scholarship and leadership in landscape architecture.
John F. Marszalek, history, presented "Gen. William T. Sherman and the Atlanta Campaign: Old War or New War" at the Military Studies Institute at Texas A&M University. He also conducted a seminar on "Assault at West Point: From Book to Movie." Marszalek also wrote a chapter, "Margaret Eaton: The Politics of Gender in Jacksonian America," for the book, "The Human Tradition in Antebellum America." He presented "Sherman's Other War: A Civil War Military-Media Battle" at The Conference on Local History in Perrysburg, Ohio. In addition, he was elected to a three-year term of the board of directors of the Mississippi Historical Society and named a participant in the C-SPAN Presidential Leadership Survey. He is at work on his 10th book.
Tim McCourt, art, had work included in the international art exhibition, "Small Works," at 80 Washington Square East Galleries, New York Universities, New York City. He also is the recipient of a merit award for work included in the national exhibition "What is Drawing Now" at Weber State University, Ogden, Utah.
Jamie Mixon, art, won two gold awards and the "Best of Show" designation for a professional category in competition sponsored by the Golden Triangle Advertising Federation.
Glover Moore, professor emeritus of history, received the Mississippi Historical Society's Dunbar Rowland Award for his "distinguished publications on the history of Mississippi, for inspiring dedication to the teaching of history and for his able leadership in the MHS and the community of historians throughout the state."
MSU libraries won the Public Relations Award from the Mississippi Library Association at its recent Legislative Day 2000 Conference. The award recognized the libraries' outreach program for the "best year-round effort by an individual library to publicize library services in general." Gail Peyton chairs the Outreach Committee.
Rudy Rogers, chemical engineering, presented his research on utilizing gas hydrates for natural gas storage at the Forum on the Feasibility Studies on Gas Hydrates for Development of Energy Resources in Tokyo.
David Shaw, Remote Sensing Technology Center, was named Weed Scientist of the Year by the Southern Weed Science Society.
Tony Skjellum, computer science, presented "Fast MPI: Extensions to the Message Passing Interface for Higher Performance and Higher Predictability" at the Cluster Computing in Geophysics and the Sciences Conference at the Center for High Performance Computing, University of Utah.
Head basketball coach Rick Stansbury was honored with the Campbellsville University (Ky.) Alumni Association's Distinguished Alumnus Award. He is a 1982 C.U. graduate.
David Tatum, plant and soil sciences, was recognized by the Mississippi Nurserymen's Association as the Nurseryman of the Year.
A paper presented by Ray Vaughn, computer science, was selected one of the top five papers at the Conference on Software Engineering Education and Training 2000. The authors of the top five papers are invited to expand their papers for publication in either Computer Science Education or the IEEE Transactions on Education.
