Sanderson Center nets national honor

The Joe Frank Sanderson Center has been recognized as one of the outstanding indoor sports facilities in the nation by a national organization.

The National Intramural Recreational Sports Association presents the awards to 12 recipients every four years. There were 35 facilities vying for the honor.

The honorees will be included in the fourth volume of Indoor Outstanding Sports Facilities published by NIRSA later this year.

Some of the criteria used to select the winners includes architectural design and aesthetics, functionality and what unique or noteworthy features stand out in function and design.

The 150,000-square-foot Sanderson Center daily serves more than 2,000 students, faculty, staff, alumni, and guests. It is operated by the Office of Recreational Sports.
