

Mississippi State Libraries is hosting a one-day seminar on research and publishing skills for librarians on June 16.
"Research and Publishing Basics: A Seminar for Faculty and Professionals in Academic Libraries" is designed to increase participants' awareness and skills in scholarly research and publishing. The provost's office and the dean of libraries are sponsoring the seminar.
Registration is 9-9:45 a.m. and all events take place in the first-floor auditorium of Mitchell Memorial Library. Following the seminar's conclusion at 3:30 p.m., tours of the library will be conducted.

Currently, Riggs is editor of College & Research Libraries and former editor of Library Administration and Management and Library Hi Tech. He has written eight books and numerous articles and book chapters.
Other speakers will join Riggs in an afternoon panel discussion. Chairing the panel is Dr. George E. Light, assistant professor of English at MSU and chair of the Library Committee; Dr. Terry Latour, director of library services at Delta State University; Dr. Carol Cubberley, director of technical services at University of Southern Mississippi Libraries; Dr. Jonathan Pote, assistant vice president for research at MSU; and Dr. Michael Ballard, university archivist and coordinator of the congressional collection in the MSU Libraries.
Among panelists' topics are the impact of research on job performance, what an editor looks for in article proposals and submissions, the role of research and publishing in the promotion and tenure process, funding for research, and tips on dealing with editors and publishers. A question-and-answer session will follow.
