Program: Sabbatical Fellowship for the Humanities and Social Sciences

Sabbatical Fellowships offer $40,000 for the second half of a mid-career faculty member's one-year sabbatical. (The Society expects the college or university to fund the first half). Candidates must not have had a financially supported leave during the previous three years. There are no restrictions on where the fellow resides; however, an indication of the appropriateness of the available library resources should be given. Program: German Studies Research Grant

These grants are designed to promote study of cultural, political, historical, economic and social aspects of modern and contemporary German affairs from an inter- and multi-disciplinary perspective. Candidates must be nominated by department and/or program chairs. Undergraduates with at least junior standing, Masters and Ph.D. candidates are eligible. Program: Planning, Scripting, Implementation, and Production Grants (Public Programs)
Agency: National Endowment for the Humanities
Next Deadline: Nov 01, 2000
Awards up to $40,000 for planning exhibitions and other community- based projects; up to $30,000 for planning radio and television/film projects; and up to $50,000 for planning interactive multimedia projects. Scripting grants are for radio and TV/film projects and should not exceed $60,000 for a 1-hour documentary. Implementation and production grants range from $100,000 to $300,000 for an exhibition or a national reading or discussion, to $800,000 for a television/film documentary. AGENCY: U.S. Department of Education; Office of Postsecondary Education
ITEM: Notice requesting applications for new awards for FY 2001 under the International Research and Studies Program, which provides grants to eligible applicants to conduct research and studies to improve and strengthen instruction in modern foreign languages, area studies, and other international fields to provide full understanding of places in which the foreign languages are commonly used.

Program: Training, Education, and Public Outreach Grants
Agency: American Association for Laboratory Animal Science Foundation

Outreach Grants support projects that promote the public's awareness of the responsible use of animals in biomedical research and the benefits gained from such research. Training and Education Grants support professional development projects for those who use and care for animals in a laboratory setting, including undergraduates. Conducting workshops is acceptable. A small number of research projects that promote excellence in animal care in laboratory and biomedical settings will be funded. Most awards have been about $5,000. Program: Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar Awards Programs
Agency: Dreyfus Foundation
Next Deadline: Nov 15, 2000
Provides funds under two programs-Camille Dreyfus Program (11/15/00 deadline) and Henry Dreyfus Program (6/30/00 deadline). The Camille Dreyfus Program is focused primarily on individual research attainment and promise, but evidence of excellence in teaching is also expected. The Henry Dreyfus Program stresses teaching, mentorship, and the nominees' accomplishments in research and teaching, primarily with undergraduates. Program: Support for Advanced Scientific Research
Agency: Eppley Foundation for Research
Next Deadline: Nov 01, 2000
Foundation is interested in supporting research for which federal support is not readily available, in advanced scientific subjects in the biological and physical sciences. Grants are made to recognize educational and charitable organizations in support of postdoctoral projects. Grants will not support research on DNA, AIDS, cancer, or cardiology. Grants of up to $25,000 support one year of research. The average grant is for $15,000. Foundation makes about 9 awards each year. New investigators generally are not funded.
