Endowment to fund staff awards, programs

Members of the Professional and Support Staff Advisory Council are hoping to add $100,000 to the recently renamed Zacharias Staff Recognition and Development Fund.

The original fund was established by PSSAC during the university's capital campaign that ended in 1997. It was named for former president Donald W. Zacharias earlier this year.

Plans are to increase the fund's amount to at least $120,000 in five years by encouraging contributions from faculty and staff.

Ultimately, staff council members plan to use the endowment's earnings to finance the annual Zacharias Distinguished Staff Awards. At present, six awards of $1,000 each are presented each spring. Any extra funds will be used to promote staff development at MSU.

Persons interested in contributing may do so outright, or by payroll deduction, bank draft, bequests, trusts, life insurance, real estate, or personal property. The MSU Foundation will invest and manage the fund.

For more information, or to contribute to the Zacharias Staff Recognition and Development Fund, telephone the MSU Foundation at 325-3410.
