Nominations due for prof of the year

Suggested nominees for the 2001 U.S. Professors of the Year Program sponsored by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and directed by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education should be submitted by April 20 to the President's Office.

CASE and the Carnegie Foundation will name national winners in four categories based on institutional type, ranging from baccalaureate colleges to research and doctoral universities. A State Professor of the Year also will be named in all 50 states. Dr. Nancy Hargrove of the Department of English was the 2000 winner in Mississippi.

The university may nominate up to three professors. An ad hoc committee led by Holland Faculty Senate chair Dan Embree will recommend nominees from among those suggested.

Nominees must teach at the undergraduate level and must have taught at least one semester of the 2000-2001 academic year. They may be of any rank and may teach full time or part time.

Faculty and staff who wish to suggest a nominee should submit a one-page statement summarizing the professor's education, teaching experience, other teaching awards, publications, service, and other significant contributions to the Professor of the Year Nominating Committee, Office of the President, Mail Stop 9720, or fax to 325-3189. Supporting documentation should focus on work with undergraduate students.

The university's nominees for the honor will be contacted by the committee and asked to provide additional supporting materials, which must be submitted to CASE by May 11. CASE will not accept self-nominations or nominations by students.
