More than 220 faculty, staff, students, and alumni have been named to committees that will carry out the bulk of the work of the university's self-study. The effort will lead to reaffirmation of accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools in 2003.

Members of 14 committees were appointed in early April by President Malcolm Portera on the recommendation of a Self-Study Steering Committee formed last fall. The newly created committees will begin work this spring.

The self-study report should be complete in fall 2002, and a SACS Reaffirmation Committee visit probably will be scheduled for the spring of 2003, with formal action on accreditation coming at the Commission on Colleges meeting in December 2003, said self-study director Leslie Bauman.
