Dr. Peacock at Site

While students excavate test squares, Dr. Evan Peacock of the Cobb Institute of Archaeology examines a magnetometer reading at a 700-year-old Native American site in northeastern Oktibbeha County. The low-acid limestone soil at the Lyon's Bluff settlement has allowed an unusual degree of preservation of animal and plant remains, giving archaeologists valuable insight into the daily workings of the late Mississippian agricultural community.
