Charles Menifield A Mississippi State political scientist had the lead role in producing a new book that assesses the impact of increased minority and female representation on American politics during the late 20th century. "Representation of Minority Groups in the U.S.: Implications for the Twenty-First Century" is being released Aug. 28 by University Press of America Inc. Dr. Charles E. Menifield is both editor and a co-author. An assistant professor in the Political Science Department, he wrote several chapters in the 352-page book. Professor Mfanya D. "Representation of Minority Groups" chronicles the changes in descriptive and substantive political representation of women, African Americans, Latin Americans, Asian American and American Indians in the United States from 1965 to the present. In addition to providing detailed demographic and behavioral facts about the groups, each chapter assesses their representations through discussions of partisanship, ideology, policy impact, role orientations, and leadership, among other areas.
