The fall concert of the Mississippi State Percussion Ensemble will be held Nov. 5 in Lee Hall auditorium.

Beginning at 7:30 p.m., the free program features an eclectic mix. Among others, the selections will include such classic works as George Handel's "Bouree," traditional West African instrumentals, and compositions influenced by the percussion group Stomp and inspired by Japanese festivals.

The ensemble is led by Dr. Robert J. Damm, an associate professor in the sponsoring department of music education.

Guest performers will include:

--Flutist and associate professor Lana Johns in a composition inspired by Native American music of the Southwest;

--The Starkville High School Steel Band, under the direction of Michael Goodwin, displaying its skill with Caribbean calypso tunes; and

--Senior MSU music education major Ashley W. Golmon of Starkville featured in a marimba concerto.

"The finale will involve a unique composition combining the choreography of director Chris Dewey and his Starkville Martial Arts Academy students with original music developed for the percussion ensemble," Damm said. "It should make for a most exciting and entertaining conclusion."
