MSU bermudagrass makes World Series appearance
A part of Mississippi State was on the field at the World Series this year-not in the form of a former baseball player, but in the form of a very durable bermudagrass invented by MSU researchers. Developed by Dr. Jeff Krans, professor of plant and soil sciences, and Wayne Philley, senior research assistant in plant and soil sciences, Mississippi Choice is the grass on the Arizona Diamondback's home field. Marketed under various names in different part of the country, the MSU creation is found on other famous fields, including the Rose Bowl, Anaheim Stadium and Scott Field at MSU. Mississippi Choice was developed by researchers with the Mississippi Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Station. The patented and licensed grass was commercialized in 1994. |
