An exhibit now on display through mid-December at Mississippi State features the work of best-selling children's author Jan Brett.

"A Christmas Treasury" is the theme of the third-floor Mitchell Memorial Library display organized by Nancy Verhoek-Miller, professor of curriculum and instruction. Also the title of a newly published Brett collection, the display includes teaching resources and information about the author.

Released this year by G.P. Putnam's Sons, the 256-page collection combines seven of Brett's most highly acclaimed stories, among them "The Mitten," "The Wild Christmas Reindeer," "Trouble with Trolls," and "The Twelve Days of Christmas."

A New York Times best-selling author with more than 20 million books now in print, Brett autographed the display copy of "Treasury" to "the students of Mississippi State University."

Often drawing on Scandinavian themes and illustrations, Brett has written more than 13 works and illustrated more than 15 others. A Massachusetts resident, she is a Boston Museum of Fine Arts School alumna who holds an honorary degree from Fitchburg (Mass.) State College.

"Jan Brett is an accomplished illustrator and story-teller whose works delight any age," Verhoek-Miller said. To both fans and those unfamiliar with Brett's works, the MSU library display "is an introduction to her wonderfully imaginative approach to children's stories," she added.
