Joint choir, jazz concert planned April 14

The Mississippi State University Concert Choir and Jazz Band will present a joint concert April 14 at 3 p.m. in the McComas Hall theater.

The Concert Choir will perform Leonard Bernstein's "Chichester Psalms," with guest soloist Wesley Speed, along with two American hymns and two opera choruses.

Dr. Rebecca Koenigberg, assistant professor of voice, will be joining the choir in the "Brindisi" from Giuseppe Verdi's "La Traviata."

Joining the Jazz Band in its part of the concert will be the MSU Trombone Ensemble, directed by Dr. Richard Human. The ensemble will present the "Lament" in memory of its author, J.J. Johnson.

The State Messengers, a smaller jazz combo comprosed of members from the larger band, also will present two selections. One number, "Sonny Rollins Tenor Madness" will feature the talents of James Bell.

The concert is free and open to the public.
